Late Barringtonia in Early July

The Barringtonia season was ending, and we gathered just enough flowers to make bookmarks.

Twenty-four laminated bookmarks laid out in rows on a wooden table, each holding one pressed Barringtonia flower; most stayed white and fluffy, a few turned brown.

It was July 4th, and instead of going to NTU campus to see the flowers, we decided to head to Yuanshan to see the Flower Expo. There happened to be several Barringtonia in the area near the greenhouse exhibit. It was really nice that we were able to see the flowers while they lasted.

I also did some experiment at home trying to preserve the flowers so that they don’t shrink and retain their color.

It is a species native to Taiwan and its flower meaning is “peace will come”.

Three more notes from the same notebook, picked by topic and not by an algorithm.
